The DJ community lost one of it’s greatest, Adam Goldstein better known as DJ AM. I knew AM back in the pre-TMZ days…. before the Nicole Ritchie relationship… before the weight loss… before the celebrity parties… before Serato. I remember when his vinyl got stolen and I offered to hook him up with any extras I had. I remember when I first heard AM in the club… thinking to myself, “Who is this fat dude spinning Jay-Z into the Eagles at a Hip Hop club???!!!” At that time that was unheard of. You either spun Hip Hop or you spun Rock. Not both! You didn’t mix different musical genres. But DJ AM did. That was HIS style. And he made it sound so good. He took DJing to another level… returning the DJ to Rock Star status… and proved to us that DJs could make Rock Star money. He lead the way for all of us DJs… challenging us to step up our game and think outside the box. So the next time you’re in the club and you hear Biggie, Human League, Lynard Skynard, and Daft Punk all played in the same night… you can thank DJ AM for that. R.I.P.
