REMEMBERING 2PAC

Published on September th, 2011

September 13, 1996. It was a Friday so already it was a day destined to be bad. I was on the air in the afternoon, filling in for Theo on 92.3 The Beat, when my music director, Mariama Snyder, comes in with tears crying, “2pac is dead!” And like a doctor who has the grim task of telling a family member their loved one didn’t make it… I had to be the bearer of bad news to a city of millions… a city that 2pac wrote songs about… a city that 2pac represented every time he threw up that “W” sign. And once I made that dreadful announcement over the radio… you could feel the stillness in the air. It was like City of Angels wings had stopped flapping.

2pac died 15 years ago today and his presence in… not only hip hop… but in life is still missed today. Whether you loved him… or hated him… you can’t deny the presence… the impact… and talent… of Tupac Amaru Shakur. R.I.P.

So where were you when you 2pac died?
